报告题目:闪电活动与强降水及台风强度变化的关系

报告摘要:Lightning is not only a severe natural hazard itself but also a major trigger for global wildfires and significant contributor to nitrogen oxides in the atmosphere. Increase of lightning may lead to elevated ozone (greenhouse gas) in the upper troposphere. Many studies suggest that global warming may induce stronger convection and more lightning, therefore, lightning increase is a growing concern.Most importantly, lightning is an excellent indicator of intense convection and closely related to severe weathers including extreme precipitation. However, thunderstorm frequency in China decreases markedly during the last few decades, somewhat opposite to the increasing trend of extreme (hourly) precipitation. Underlying physical mechanisms for thisare still unknown, and fundamental relationships between lightning and extreme precipitationwarrant more research.

报告人简介:

中山大学教授,博士研究生导师,入选国家“海外高层次人才计划”青年项目。本科毕业于兰州大学,后于美国犹他大学获博士学位。主要从事气象遥感、热带气象、中尺度动力、对流过程以及微物理气象等方面的研究,包括极端对流、暴雨、雷电、台风等灾害天气的研究。曾主持(PIco-PI)多项美国宇航局、美国NSF、国家基金委以及广东省科技厅科研项目。曾参与多个卫星气象产品开发项目,多次参加大型国际大气海洋外场观测试验。已发表SCI学术论文30余篇,其中一作近20篇,包括AGU亮点论文等,一作论文被他引600余次。现担任美国宇航局GHRC科学委员会委员和美国科罗拉多州立大学客座(荣誉)研究员。
